Desert Horse Campsite at Klein Aus Vista is a magical campsite. It will call you back again like an echo. Resting in an amphitheatre of rock, it's a hideaway that evokes the feeling of wilderness although only a 2 kilometer-drive from Desert Horse Inn. The sites are positioned under giant camelthorn trees, some adorned with sociable weaver nests. Here bird, tree and sky exchange stories. Klein Aus is renowned for this vista. You will remember these sunsets. As prime spot in the area, Desert Horse Campsite provides an ideal base to explore the south-western corner of Namibia.
Here, wild horses of the Namib roam, desert sand blows through old diamond towns, the stars twinkle in your dreams and nearby Lüderitz holds century-old wishes. At Klein Aus Vista camping pleasures are enjoyed to the full. Each of the ten sites is equipped with a tap, table with benches, grill and windbreak. We offer hot-water showers and flush toilets while the courtesy of Mother Nature provides space and grace. Note that there are no power point outlets at the Desert Horse camp. If you have equipment that need to be charged it can be done at reception of Desert Horse Inn. Barbecue packs are also available at the reception of Desert Horse Inn (1.5 km); those who like to skip cooking for a change are more than welcome at the Inn's restaurant (subject to space available, please enquire upon arrival).
Several hiking trails run through the valley; the Vista Trail leads to a lookout point where you can watch the sun disappear behind the distant horizon at the far end of vast desert plains. There's nothing quite like the simple pleasures: camaraderie around the campfire and the enchantment of a star-studded heaven rich in myths. On nights when the moon is a slender curve, look up at Orion's belt; find the Southern Cross and wonder. Feel the invigorating energy of the wild spaces of Namibia. Enter its peace.
